Saying goodbye to antibiotics in farming
Singapore-based startup Peptobiotics has secured $6.2 million in a series A funding round.
The fresh capital will enable the company to produce larger commercial volumes of its antibiotic alternative for the farming and aquaculture sector, helping to reduce the industry’s overreliance on antibiotics and combat the rise of antibiotic-resistant bacteria.
Nature-inspired solution: recombinant antimicrobial peptides
Peptobiotics’ innovative solution utilizes recombinant antimicrobial peptides, which are naturally occurring proteins that inhibit bacterial growth.
Co-founder and CEO Jonathan Bester emphasized the company’s focus on using biotech to create an effective, clean, humane, and safe agricultural antibiotic alternative.
The oversubscribed funding round was led by aquaculture-focused enterprise Hatch Blue, with participation from Seeds Capital (Singapore), Seventure Partners (France), GrainCorp Ventures (Australia), and Farmabase, a Latin American animal healthcare company.
