Jala secured $13.1M in Series A funding to expand its aquaculture technology in Indonesia
Jala, an Indonesia-based aquaculture technology startup, recently closed a $13.1 million Series A funding round to expand its data-driven services for the country’s huge shrimp farming industry.
The round was led by Intudo Ventures, a VC firm focused on Indonesian startups, with participation from Sinar Mas Digital Ventures and existing backers Mirova and Meloy Fund.
Founded in 2017 by Aryo Wiryawan and Liris Maduningtyas, Jala has developed an integrated app platform that enables shrimp farmers to monitor, analyze and optimize their operations in real-time using data analytics and AI.
The startup serves nearly 20,000 customers with over 35,000 monitored shrimp ponds and counting.
Jala’s data-driven approach is revolutionizing shrimp farming
“Indonesia is one of the top global shrimp producers, so aquatech innovation is crucial for increasing yields and efficiency,” said Wiryawan.
“The new funding will expand Jala’s predictive capabilities even further – helping farmers prevent disease, improve water conditions and boost cultivation performance.”
Specifically, Jala aims to enhance automated tracking features for key metrics like shrimp weight and feed intake. The app also provides customized insights and step-by-step recommendations to improve each farm.
Jala’s expansion plans are leading the way in aquatech innovation
The Series A round signals growing investor enthusiasm for Indonesia’s agriculture and aquaculture tech startups. Earlier this year, local aquatech unicorn eFishery raised $200 million in fresh capital.
Jala marks an emerging player with a strong product-market fit and the new funds to tap into Indonesia’s massive, fast-growing shrimp farming industry and abroad.
