Surprise Cuts Hit Global HQ

Dyson, the British tech giant, conducted a surprise round of layoffs at its global headquarters in Singapore on October 1st.

Employees were caught off guard by the discreet retrenchment exercise, which affected various departments including manufacturing, procurement, and R&D.

Morale Takes a Nosedive

The sudden job cuts have left Dyson’s Singapore workforce reeling. Many employees now fear future layoffs, despite the company’s recent announcements of increased investments in the city-state.

The United Workers of Electronics and Electrical Industries expressed disappointment at the short notice given for the retrenchment exercise.

Singapore Remains Strategic Hub

Despite the layoffs, Dyson maintains that its ambitions in Singapore remain unchanged. The company continues to view the city-state as a crucial hub for research, engineering, and advanced manufacturing.

Dyson recently announced plans to open a battery plant in Singapore by 2025, highlighting its long-term commitment to the region.
