TikTok’s “Sub Space” test

TikTok is experimenting with a new feature called “Sub Space” that allows popular live streamers to interact more closely with their paying subscribers.

According to a company spokesperson, Sub Space is currently in the early testing stages with the goal of helping creators improve engagement and offer subscribers additional benefits.

The Sub Space feature was first spotted by TikTok user Jonah Manzano, who posted screenshots of the subscriber-only conversation threads and polls.

Exclusive interaction for fans

In Sub Space, creators can start discussions centered around specific topics or ask subscribers questions to facilitate more direct conversations.

For example, creators may ask subscribers to introduce themselves, request feedback on video ideas, or provide updates on their personal lives.

Creators can also leverage Sub Space to share previews, announce upcoming livestream schedules, and conduct polls to crowdsource opinions from subscribers.

The exclusive interactions available in Sub Space serve as an incentive for viewers to subscribe to gain access.

TikTok expands live features

The launch of Sub Space aligns with TikTok’s growing investment in live-streaming capabilities.

Earlier this year, TikTok began piloting a program to allow gaming creators with established followings on other platforms like Twitch to access the TikTok LIVE Studio desktop streaming tool.

Though still in early stages, features like Sub Space and the gaming creator pilot program indicate TikTok’s interest in competing with more established live-streaming platforms.

Offering exclusive community engagement opportunities helps popular TikTok creators retain and expand their subscriber bases.

As Sub Space remains in testing phases, it will likely continue to be refined based on creator feedback.
