Tech Giant Supercharges Local Economy
Amazon has significantly bolstered its presence in Singapore, investing over S$2 billion ($1.49 billion) across retail and cloud operations in 2023.
The investment spans capital improvements, including infrastructure upgrades to fulfilment centers, delivery stations, and data centers, alongside operational expenditures for technology, safety, and employee compensation.
Job Creation and Business Empowerment
The substantial investment generated substantial economic impact, supporting more than 10,000 indirect jobs in 2023. Local Singapore businesses selling on Amazon created over 6,000 jobs, demonstrating the platform’s transformative potential. Through initiatives like the “Singapore Cross-border Brand Launchpad” developed alongside Enterprise Singapore, Amazon is helping micro and small enterprises scale internationally.
Sustainability and Innovation Take Center Stage
Amazon Web Services (AWS) continues driving Singapore’s digital transformation, collaborating with major local companies like Grab and Maritime & Port Authority of Singapore. The company has also committed to sustainability, investing in renewable energy projects that will generate enough power to support nearly 20,000 Singaporean homes annually.
AWS’s AI Spring program further underscores its dedication to accelerating technological innovation in the region.
