- iPhone 16 gets dedicated camera button
- Apple focuses on photography
- Third-party apps snap up opportunities
Point, click, innovate
Apple has unveiled a dedicated touch-sensitive camera button for the iPhone 16 series at its “Glowtime” event.

This new feature, covered by smooth sapphire crystal and a stainless steel rim, aims to enhance the photography experience for users.
Snap happy
The button’s functionality is intuitive: a single press opens the camera app, another captures a photo, and a press-and-hold starts video recording.

Its touch-sensitivity allows for zoom control by sliding your finger across it. A light double-press brings up additional controls like depth of field adjustment.
Third-party fun
Apple is opening up the camera control to third-party apps, allowing for creative integrations. Snapchat, for instance, is using the button for quick moment-sharing experiences.
The company also plans to update the camera control later this year with a two-state shutter for locking focus and exposure.

This new addition complements existing camera shortcuts and the Action Button, offering users more flexibility in how they capture their world through their iPhone lens.
