When the super app met the AI genius

Grab and OpenAI are joining forces in a groundbreaking partnership that promises to revolutionize the Southeast Asian tech landscape.

The two industry giants have announced their collaboration aimed at developing and deploying cutting-edge AI solutions for Grab’s vast ecosystem – a first-of-its-kind endeavor in the region.

The initial focus areas for this power duo include accessibility, customer service, and mapping. Visually impaired and elderly users can look forward to AI-powered text and voice functions, ensuring seamless access to Grab’s services.

Additionally, intelligent customer service chatbots aim to resolve issues more effectively, while GrabMaps’ data extraction processes will be further automated and enhanced.

Grab’s Q1 earnings hit the jackpot

Grab’s foray into AI dates back to 2019, when the company allocated a whopping $150 million for AI research and hosted a regional AI challenge.

Fast forward to 2024, and co-founder and CEO Anthony Tan has reaffirmed generative AI as a top priority, highlighting its potential to drive lean and disciplined operations – a testament to Grab’s forward-thinking vision.

The partnership with OpenAI comes on the heels of Grab’s remarkable financial performance in Q1 2024, where the company achieved an all-time high of $62 million in adjusted EBITDA.

This milestone underscores Grab’s commitment to innovation and growth, setting the stage for a transformative collaboration with one of the world’s leading AI pioneers.
