Fashionably late or missing the party?

Amazon is gearing up to launch its AI assistant, codenamed “Metis,” in September. This move pits the tech giant against established players like OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Google, Microsoft.

Metis aims to offer conversational tech- and image-based answers, complete source links. The project arrives noticeably late to the AI party, trailing behind competitors who have already made significant strides in the field.

Despite its tardiness, Amazon’s late entry might offer some advantages. The company can learn from its rivals’ successes and missteps, potentially avoiding major pitfalls.

One potential differentiator for Metis is its plan to provide more up-to-date responses, such as real-time stock prices. However, the question remains: will this be enough to lure users away from their preferred chatbots?

Alexa, set an alarm for “catch up ASAP”

Amazon’s delay in joining the AI assistant race reflects its broader struggle to keep pace in the generative AI sphere.

The company that dominated for over a decade found itself lagging after ChatGPT’s 2022 launch.

Now, Amazon faces the challenge of not only catching up but also standing out in an increasingly crowded field.

The clock is ticking, time will tell if Amazon can turn its late start into a strategic advantage.
