TikTok is stepping into the ring against Amazon’s Prime Day this July. The social media giant announced its “Deals For You Days” sales event in the U.S., kicking off on July 9.
This move positions TikTok Shop to compete directly with Amazon’s annual shopping extravaganza, scheduled for July 16 and 17.
The event promises exclusive deals on fashion, beauty, home decor, and more from popular brands like L’Oréal Paris and Our Place.
During the event, brands and merchants will engage in content challenges and LIVE shopping events, offering real-time discounts and interactive experiences.
This strategy aims to leverage TikTok’s massive user base and transform scrolling into shopping.
The platform is betting big on e-commerce, targeting a tenfold growth in its U.S. TikTok Shop business to $17.5 billion this year.
From dance moves to dollar signs
TikTok’s foray into e-commerce isn’t just about competing with Amazon—it’s also taking aim at fellow Chinese-owned companies Temu and Shein.
TikTok’s global gross merchandise value was expected to hit $20 billion in 2023, primarily from Southeast Asia.
Now, TikTok is bringing that success stateside, riding the wave of social commerce growth.
With industry forecasts predicting social commerce sales to more than double to $144.5 billion by 2027, TikTok is positioning itself at the forefront of this lucrative trend.
