Honey, I printed the house!

Daniella Glaeze, a software engineer, has become an unexpected TikTok sensation after moving into her 3D-printed home in Wolf Ranch, Texas.

This futuristic community, a collaboration between construction startup Icon and home-building giant Lennar, boasts 100 houses built using massive gantry-style printers.

Glaeze’s viral videos offer a glimpse into daily life in these innovative dwellings, addressing common concerns about practicality and maintenance.

Concrete walls? no problem

Despite initial worries about dust accumulation in the distinctive wall ridges, Glaeze reports easy cleaning and maintenance.

The homes feature traditional elements like electricity and roofing, combined with the unique aesthetics of 3D-printed concrete walls.

Benefits include excellent insulation, noise reduction, and structural integrity against harsh weather. The only hiccup? A slight WiFi challenge, easily solved with a signal booster.

Currently priced between $425,000 and $585,000, these homes aren’t yet budget options. However, Icon aims to leverage 3D printing technology to combat the housing crisis in the future.

The company touts lower construction costs, faster development times, and improved energy efficiency as key advantages.

Icon’s recent introduction of CarbonX, a lower-emission cement material, further underscores their commitment to sustainable, innovative housing solutions.
