From iDeas to iCons

Legendary iPhone designer Jony Ive recently opened up about his time at Apple, particularly his collaboration with the late Steve Jobs.

In a revealing interview on the “Life in Seven Songs” podcast, Ive described his 15-year partnership with Jobs from 1997 to 2011 as “the most joyful and extraordinary” years of his life.

The former Apple design chief, responsible for shaping iconic products like iPhones, iPads, and MacBooks, spoke about the instant creative connection he felt upon meeting Jobs in 1997.

An apple a day keeps creativity at play

Ive’s journey at Apple began in 1992, during Jobs’ absence from the company. He described these initial years without Jobs as “painful” but crucial for his growth as a designer.

The return of Jobs in 1997 marked a turning point, bringing clarity and focus to their creative endeavors.

Ive praised Jobs’ ability to articulate complex ideas effortlessly, highlighting the synergy that fueled their collaborative success.

iLegacy: more than just products

The impact of Jobs’ passing in 2011 was profound for Ive, who described it as a “pretty comprehensive loss.”

Despite leaving Apple in 2019 to start his own design firm, Ive continues to feel Jobs’ influence daily.

He expressed deep gratitude for their time together and the lessons learned, emphasizing the enduring legacy of their partnership that went beyond creating products to shaping a culture of innovation.
