Swap, charge, and roll!

Singapore is revving up the electric heavy goods vehicle (e-HGV) scene with groundbreaking trials for battery charging, swapping, and mobile charging systems.

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) is gearing up to kick off these trials in the second half of 2024, aiming to supercharge the country’s electric vehicle charging infrastructure and update the national EV charging standard, Technical Reference 25 (TR25).

Charging champions unite

Four sandbox trials will be running the show for four years. PSA Corporation will be manning a battery-charging and swapping station at its Pasir Panjang port terminal, catering to eight electric vehicles.

Meanwhile, a dream team formed by Strides Frontiers and EcoSwift will be providing e-HGV battery-swapping services for up to 10 vehicles in Tuas, joining forces with local logistics firms and utilizing vehicles and a swapping station from Chinese manufacturer Sany.

Power-Up Tech and Beecharge Innovation Group, the mobile EV charging gurus for passenger EVs, will be joining the party.

Power-Up Tech will be deploying up to 10 sets of mobile charging equipment to support various electric vehicles, while Beecharge Innovation Group will be providing up to eight sets of mobile charging equipment to assist shared EV providers and commercial fleet operators.

These innovative charging solutions are set to minimize downtime for e-HGVs and conquer infrastructure constraints, paving the way for a greener and more efficient logistics sector in Singapore.
