Rice-ing to new heights

Rize, a Singapore-based agritech startup, secured US$14 million in Series A funding led by Breakthrough Energy Ventures, GenZero, Temasek, and Wavemaker Impact.

The company intends to utilize these funds to expand its operations into Indonesia and Vietnam while growing its team of agronomy experts beyond 100 members.

Green grains for the sustainable win

Rize’s platform consolidates crucial agricultural data empowering rice farmers to adapt to climate change, enhance crop yields, reduce expenses, and conserve water.

The agritech firm champions sustainable farming techniques like alternate wetting and drying (AWD) and direct seeded rice (DSR) to minimize water usage and methane emissions without compromising harvests.

According to the World Bank, rice cultivation accounts for 10% of global methane emissions and up to 33% of Southeast Asia’s methane emissions.

Additionally, data from the International Rice Research Institute reveals the rice industry consumes over a third of global irrigation water. Rize’s innovative solutions address these critical environmental challenges.
