Former Olympians Samyr Laine and Ayanna Alexander-Laine are making waves in the startup world with their new venture, Freedom Trail Capital.
Founded in 2023, the firm aims to raise $50 million to invest in influencer-led consumer brands.
The couple, who competed in triple jump for Haiti and Trinidad and Tobago respectively, are now applying their athletic grit to help founders launch and scale consumer brands.
Star-studded portfolio takes off
Freedom Trail Capital has already invested in seven startups, including Issa Rae’s hair care company Sienna Naturals and Kaley Cuoco’s pet product line Oh Norman!.
The firm’s portfolio also boasts investments in Ciara’s Ten to One Rum and the Mark Cuban and Gwyneth Paltrow-backed diaper company Kudos.
With another seven investments in the pipeline, the fund is gaining momentum in the competitive world of venture capital.
Samyr Laine brings a wealth of experience to the table, having previously served as senior vice president of operations and strategy at Will and Jada Pinkett Smith’s Westbrook, and as director of operations at Jay-Z’s Roc Nation.
