Being great at remote work is not an option… it is a necessity for survival in most niches
So I was having this conversation with a friend recently and his view was that working in the office is still more effective.
And I of course disagreed.
But more importantly than just disagreeing.. i explained why I think in the longer-term it is more a question of survival.
Because using remote workers gives you access to a much wider talent pool at a much lower cost.
And this is the metaphor I love giving these days.
Imagine you run a professional basketball team in the Philippines (in the PBA). And everyone else is using foreign talent to bolster their team (players from US, Europe, etc.)
Do you think your team will remain competitive if you just ran a team of Philippine players?
No… you’d probably get your butts kicked.
Mastering remote is not an option… for the companies that have any foresight, it is a MUST.
And the rules of the game at being great at it… are very different from the traditional ‘management mantra’.
