Hungry for more than just views
TikTok, the ByteDance-owned short video sensation, is venturing beyond entertainment in Southeast Asia.
Users in Indonesia and Thailand can now snag restaurant, flight, and hotel vouchers directly through their feeds.
This move signals TikTok’s ambition to diversify its offerings and tap into the region’s burgeoning local services sector.
The platform is actively recruiting restaurant owners and merchants to join “TikTok Local Services” in both countries.
Sources suggest that leisure categories are next on the menu, allowing users to score coupons for flights and hotels from third-party providers.
TikTok’s job boards are buzzing too, listing nearly 30 openings related to local services across Singapore, Jakarta, and Bangkok.
Testing the waters
TikTok officials confirm that the local services operations in Thailand and Indonesia remain in the testing phase.
Currently, only a select group of users can access these offerings, curated by the app’s recommendation algorithm.
The company is also exploring partnerships established carriers for on-demand services like food delivery, mirroring the strategy of its Chinese counterpart, Douyin.
