- Facebook unveils major redesign targeting younger user
- New features focus on local content and entertainment
- The platform aims to compete against TikTok and Instagram for Gen Z attention
Fishing for Gen Z
Facebook has announced a significant redesign aimed at wooing younger users away from platforms like TikTok and Instagram. The revamp focuses on local community information, videos, and Facebook Groups, signaling a shift in strategy for the aging social network.

Reeling in the Local Crowd
A new “Local” tab will aggregate content from Marketplace, Groups, and Events, offering users a centralized hub for neighborhood activities, local sales, and community recommendations. This feature will initially launch in select U.S. cities, including Austin, New York City, and Los Angeles.
Casting a Wider Entertainment Net
The redesign introduces an “Explore” tab, powered by an algorithm to surface personalized content and connect users to niche interests.

Additionally, the Video tab will receive an upgrade, featuring a full-screen player for short-form, long-form, and live videos, giving Reels a more prominent position on the platform.
