Singapore-based Bld.ai is a digital professional services platform that has found success by operating like “mercenaries” while building Amazon-like infrastructure.

Launched in 2017, the bootstrapped company has been profitable since 2022, reporting S$14 million (US$10.4 million) in revenue and S$3 million (US$2.2 million) in EBITDA last year.

Providing quality service

Led by co-founder and CEO Danny Castonguay, formerly of McKinsey, Bld.ai‘s network consists of 500 partners who offer services from engineering to legal on an hourly, contractor basis.

By keeping overhead low, Bld.ai says it provides quality services at reduced prices compared to major consultancies.

Launched a new system

Bld.ai has invested in an automated back-office system called Flow to minimize costs. It also uses AI and human auditors to analyze and score projects.

Though initially focused on startups, over 50% of Bld.ai‘s revenue now comes from large corporations.

Already profitable after two years

After two profitable years, Bld.ai aims to triple sales in 2024 and scale to over 1 million clients by 2029. Castonguay believes that with the right investors, Bld.ai can grow larger than incumbents by combining a mercenary, hourly approach with Amazon-like automation.

If successful, he sees possible annual revenue of $40 billion.
