Tech titan Microsoft is doubling down on Indonesia, announcing a massive $1.7 billion investment over four years in new cloud and AI infrastructure.

This marks the company’s single largest investment in its 29-year history in the country.

Microsoft will also facilitate AI skills training for a staggering 840,000 Indonesians. As Chairman and CEO Satya Nadella put it, “The investments…will help Indonesia thrive in this new era” of AI disruption.

During Nadella’s Jakarta visit, President Joko Widodo encouraged Microsoft to establish a research center in the country.

The government recognizes AI’s potential contribution of nearly $366 billion to Indonesia’s GDP by 2030.

Skilling up Southeast Asia for AI power

Beyond Indonesia, Microsoft aims to provide AI training and support to 2.5 million people across Southeast Asia by 2025, partnering with governments, communities, and organizations regionwide.

The tech giant is turbocharging the region’s AI readiness.
