Primebook is a Delhi-based startup that aims to provide affordable laptops to students. The company was founded in 2017 and initially aimed to create an affordable notebook-like device that would rely on a smartphone for processing power and internet connectivity.

This concept never materialized due to hardware issues, therefore the team instead developed a low-cost laptop. Primebook’s device is a modified Android tablet with a user interface resembling a smartphone but a hardware form factor of a laptop.

The operating system that the firm uses is based on the Android Open Source Project, which helps to reduce the cost of the device.

Primebook’s profitability

Even though its goods are inexpensive, Primebook has managed to create a successful business.

The company says it earned a net profit of approximately 10% of its revenue for the financial year (FYE) March 2023, which would put it at around US$72,000.

Primebook’s Expansion Strategy

In addition to having a retail market strategy for India next year, Primebook intends to reach Vietnam and Indonesia.

The firm’s main focus is to build a US$12 million revenue business by selling its product through e-commerce platforms like Flipkart and bringing it to retail stores.

Primebook’s Founders

Umang Leekha, Pankaj Rawat, Aman Verma, and Chitranshu Mahant founded the business. Verma and Mahant have worked in retail distribution and logistics network growth, respectively, but none of them have any expertise in the laptop industry.

Primebook’s Product

Primebook’s device is a modified Android tablet with a user interface resembling a smartphone but a hardware form factor of a laptop.

The operating system that the firm uses is based on the Android Open Source Project, which helps to reduce the cost of the device. The device is priced at US$120.
