- AirPods Pro 2 become hearing aids
- Apple innovates accessibility
- iOS 18 introduces hearing tests
Sound innovation
Apple has announced that its AirPods Pro 2 can now function as “clinical-grade” hearing aids. This groundbreaking feature, unveiled at the “It’s Glowtime” event, awaits FDA clearance, which Apple expects “soon.”
Hear clearer
The hearing aid feature boosts specific sounds in real-time, enhancing speech and environmental elements. It applies a personalized hearing profile to various audio sources, improving users’ ability to engage in conversations and hear surroundings better.
Health on tap
Complementing this, iOS 18 introduces a five-minute certified hearing test. Users tap their screens in response to tones, creating a personalized hearing profile stored in the Health app.
This profile powers the hearing aid feature and Media Assist, which can boost specific audio elements even for those without significant hearing loss.
Both features will roll out this fall via software updates in over 100 countries and regions, marking a significant step in accessible technology.
