Nintendo’s Epic Surprise: The Legend of Zelda Live-Action Film

Just when we thought 2023 couldn’t get any more epic after the launch of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Nintendo drops another bombshell on us.

Shigeru Miyamoto, creator of the beloved 37-year-old franchise, revealed the news in true Link fashion – through a translated statement:

“I have been working on the live-action film of The Legend of Zelda for many years now with Avi Arad-san, who has produced many mega hit films. I have asked Avi-san to produce this film with me, and we have now officially started the development of the film with Nintendo itself heavily involved in the production.”

So the company behind Super Mario Bros. and Pokemon is jumping into the movie biz in a big way! And Avi Arad is no slouch – he’s produced smash hits like Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

But will this Hylian hero’s saga translate to live-action?

A Risky Yet Promising Venture

It’s risky, but makes sense with Zelda hotter than Death Mountain right now. Breath of the Wild was hailed as one of the greatest games ever.

And the recent Tears of the Kingdom? Even more epic. If a movie about an Italian plumber can gross over $1 billion, imagine what the legendary Hero of Time could do!

Casting Concerns and High Hopes: The Future of Hyrule on the Big Screen

Though after the odd choice of Chris Pratt as Mario, we pray they don’t get too crazy with casting. No offense to Pratt, but I don’t need to hear Link with a Brooklyn accent.

Or worse – what if they try to nab Ryan Gosling again after his Pikachu role? Shudders

Here’s hoping Nintendo sticks to its roots and gives us a film worthy of the Triforce. Excuse me while I go dig out my ocarina and cosplay tights in anticipation!
