IKEA is breaking new ground by offering paid positions to staff a virtual store inside the popular gaming platform Roblox.

A byte-sized taste of IKEA careers

The Swedish furnishings giant is launching a game called The CoWorker, where 10 lucky individuals will earn IKEA’s hourly wage in London of £13.15 (approximately $17) for serving up virtual meatballs or redesigning showroom floors.

Darren Taylor, the country, people, and culture manager for IKEA UK and Ireland, stated that the game serves as an advertisement for career opportunities at IKEA.

“Our coworkers are able to change roles, switch departments, and grow in any direction they choose,” Taylor said, emphasizing the flexibility and growth potential within the company.

Ready player one? apply now!

The game is open to all, and applications for the paid positions are now available online. Interested players must make it through virtual interviews before the final staff selection.

To be eligible for pay, applicants must be over 18 years old and reside in the UK or Ireland. However, current IKEA employees at physical stores are not permitted to apply for these virtual positions.

The CoWorker marks IKEA’s first foray into the gaming world, showcasing the company’s willingness to explore new avenues for engaging with potential employees and customers.

This innovative approach demonstrates IKEA’s commitment to staying relevant and adapting to the ever-evolving digital landscape.
