- Sandberg leaves a tech legacy, advising Meta still, amid personal loss and remarriage.
Sheryl Sandberg has served as one of the most influential figures in Silicon Valley over the past decade and a half. After rising through the ranks in Washington and at Google, Sandberg was recruited by Mark Zuckerberg in 2008 to become Facebook’s chief operating officer.
Through the years
In the COO role, Sandberg focused on Facebook’s advertising business while also serving as Zuckerberg’s second-in-command as the company grew into the tech powerhouse Meta.
She made major headlines with her 2013 book “Lean In” advocating for women in leadership.
Faced scrutiny during term
While a key driver of Meta’s success, Sandberg also faced scrutiny amid scandals like Cambridge Analytica and the spread of misinformation.
In 2022, she stepped down as COO after 14 years but remained on the board – until now, announcing her departure when her term expires in May.
Leaving a legacy as a “prominent female tech exec”
Sandberg leaves behind a towering legacy as one of the most prominent female tech execs and said she’ll continue advising Meta.
Her next chapter comes after the loss of her husband, Dave Goldberg, in 2015 and her subsequent marriage last year.
