Apple unveiled its first dedicated sports app – Apple Sports – available now in the U.S., Canada, and U.K. The free iPhone app offers real-time scores, stats, news, and more for leading leagues like the NBA, MLB, and EPL.
Customizable Apple Sports
Users can customize Apple Sports by following their favorite teams and toggling between views like play-by-play details, team/player stats, lineups, and betting odds from DraftKings.
Data will also sync across Apple TV and News to personalize those apps.
Continuing to grow aggressively through paid subs
The launch coincides with kickoff for MLS Season Pass on Apple TV+, where the app may drive signups. While Apple Sports itself is free, its existence encourages sports fans to engage in Apple’s paid sports streaming offerings.
Apple continues to grow its services business aggressively, which hit $22.3 billion last quarter.
The Apple Sports app offers another funnel into subscriptions like Apple TV+ and News+ and may incorporate paid features over time as Apple looks to monetize its sports investment.
