Kuala Lumpur, ready for a shiny new neighbor?
Apple’s first physical store in Malaysia is set to open its doors on June 22nd at The Exchange TRX mall in Kuala Lumpur. Initially slated for a February launch, the opening faced delays.
Malaysia marks the third Southeast Asian nation to welcome an Apple Store, following Singapore’s inaugural location in 2017 and Bangkok’s store launch in 2018.
Apple commenced staff recruitment in Malaysia as early as January 2022 and introduced Apple Pay in the country later that year.
Apple’s Southeast Asian ambitions full bloom
Recent financial reports from Apple revealed a significant boost in quarterly revenue from China, despite a global decline in iPhone sales.
However, amid ongoing geopolitical tensions between the US and China, the tech giant has turned its sights toward Southeast Asia as a strategic buffer.
In April, Apple announced a $250 million investment to expand its Singapore campus and unveiled plans for an Apple Developer Academy in Indonesia.
Additionally, the company aims to deepen its ties with electronics suppliers based in Vietnam.
