Your new shopping buddy

Amazon has officially launched Rufus, its AI-powered shopping assistant, to all U.S. customers.

This chatbot, accessible via the Amazon mobile app, aims to revolutionize the online shopping experience by helping users find products, compare items, and receive personalized recommendations.

After extensive testing involving “tens of millions of questions,” Rufus is now ready to assist shoppers nationwide.

Smart shopper, smarter AI

Powered by a specialized internal large language model, Rufus has been trained on Amazon’s vast product catalog, customer reviews, and community Q&As.

The AI can answer a wide range of queries, from “What to consider when buying headphones?” to “I want to start an indoor garden.”

It even offers insights on fashion trends and the latest tech, keeping shoppers informed about current market offerings.

More than just a product finder

During beta testing, Amazon discovered that Rufus could go beyond simple product recommendations.

When asked about a pool umbrella for Florida, the AI provided facts about the state’s weather and humidity.

It also proved helpful in tracking past orders and providing updates on current shipments.

However, Amazon acknowledges that Rufus isn’t perfect and promises continuous improvements to enhance its capabilities.
