Ride-hailing giant expands its menu
Grab, the Southeast Asian super app, has acquired restaurant reservation platform Chope. The deal covers operations in Singapore, Indonesia, and Thailand.
Grab’s head of deliveries, Ngiam Xin Wei, announced the acquisition in an internal email, highlighting Chope’s mature reservations and table management system.
Hungry for growth
The acquisition aims to bolster Grab’s omnicommerce strategy and accelerate its efforts in the dining-out sector.
Grab plans to extend Chope’s services to its merchant partners across the region, strengthening its position as users’ preferred everyday super app.
Chope, founded in 2011, boasts over 13,000 restaurants in its network and has seated more than 35 million diners.
The Chope brand, app, and website will remain unchanged for now. Grab intends to start cross-selling Chope services to its merchant partners soon, creating a more holistic online-to-offline value proposition for merchants and users in Southeast Asia.
