- TON blockchain thrives despite Telegram CEO’s arrest
- It reaches 1 billion transactions
- The ecosystem shows resilience, highlighting complex ties between Telegram and TON
Unexpected boost

Pavel Durov’s recent arrest in France has surprisingly energized Telegram’s ecosystem. The messaging app saw a spike in downloads following the incident. TON, the blockchain running on Telegram, also experienced improved metrics.
Billion-transaction milestone
At Korea Blockchain Week, TON announced surpassing 1 billion transactions. Jack Booth, co-founder of TON Society, revealed that TON hit all-time highs for active users and transactions during what he called “probably one of the worst weeks ever in news for TON.”

Complex ties
Despite claims of independence, Telegram and TON Foundation share a complicated relationship. Durov’s arrest caused a temporary crash in Toncoin’s price, highlighting the perceived connection between the entities. However, TON’s blockchain nature provides a degree of autonomy from Telegram.
