Grab, the Southeast Asian super app, has announced that it will discontinue support for its GrabPay Card, both in digital and physical forms, starting from June 1, 2024.
The company stopped accepting new GrabPay Card applications on April 1, and users have until April 30 to request a replacement card if necessary.
Focusing on other Grab offerings
The decision to phase out the GrabPay Card services comes as Grab has observed higher adoption and use of its other offerings, such as PayLater by Grab and GrabPay Wallet.
The company plans to focus on refining these products to provide an enhanced user experience. Users’ GrabRewards points and GrabPay Wallet balance will remain unaffected by the discontinuation of the card service, and points will stay valid if users make at least one points-earning transaction each month.
New partnership for crypto payments
Grab recently partnered with crypto payments provider Triple-A to add support for e-wallet top-ups using digital tokens in the GrabPay app in Singapore.
The new feature supports major coins like bitcoin, ethereum, USDC, and USDT, as well as XSGD, a blockchain-powered stablecoin linked to the Singapore dollar. This partnership demonstrates Grab’s commitment to exploring new payment options and technologies to serve its users better.
