Farcaster’s user-friendly approach to blockchain
Decentralized social network Farcaster is leveraging Web 2.0 onboarding and engagement tactics to drive adoption of its blockchain-based platform.
Allowing easy sign-ups without crypto wallets, the network has seen daily active users surge 10x to over 61,500 after launching “Frames” for interactive in-app experiences.
Co-founded in 2020 by former Coinbase employees, Farcaster aims to bring crypto’s ownership and control to social media through features like minting NFTs and earning tokens.
But it has intentionally minimized blockchain barriers to grow. Invite rewards and post limits also curb bot risks.
Features+community strategy
The strategy differs from decentralized social peers that led with crypto-first messaging. And it is fueling real momentum for now.
However, sustaining growth long-term requires continually shipping fresh features and real community bonding, not just speculation, as past web3 social flops show.
Since support coming for more blockchains beyond Ethereum, Farcaster hopes its Web 2.0-infused approach can spur mass adoption by making blockchain access invisible to users drawn in by familiar social engagement.
