AI for All, not just the chosen few

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg recently shared his vision for AI’s future, emphasizing the importance of diversity in AI development.

In a YouTube interview, he criticized unnamed competitors for their closed-source approach, suggesting they believe they’re “creating God.”

Zuckerberg advocates for open-source AI, arguing that putting these tools in many hands will lead to better experiences for users.

Meta’s crystal ball: glasses, wristbands, and AI avatars

Looking ahead, Zuckerberg outlined Meta’s plans for wearable tech. He envisions a progression from display-less smart glasses to full holographic displays, eventually incorporating neural interfaces via wristbands.

Meta is also testing AI Studio, allowing creators to build AI avatars for Instagram messaging. These avatars will chat, answer questions, and be clearly labeled as AI to avoid confusion.

Despite his enthusiasm for new tech, Zuckerberg doesn’t foresee the immediate demise of smartphones. Instead, he predicts a gradual shift in usage patterns.

Much like how smartphones partially replaced computers, Zuckerberg believes smart glasses will increasingly handle tasks currently performed on phones.

However, he expects smartphones to remain relevant, albeit used more intentionally, for at least the next decade.
