Big Tech Gets Permission Slip

Starting today, YouTube creators can explicitly authorize specific AI companies to train models using their content through a new dashboard setting.

The initial rollout includes 18 major tech companies, such as OpenAI, Microsoft, and Adobe.

Default Says No

The platform’s new feature automatically blocks third-party AI training by default.

Creators must actively opt in to grant access to their content, addressing previous concerns about unauthorized AI model training.

Fresh Rules, Same Google

Despite these new controls for third parties, Google maintains its rights to train its own AI models on YouTube content under existing creator agreements.

The company plans to facilitate direct video downloads for authorized AI companies in future updates.
