- It aims for “data abundance” to power advanced language models.
Scale AI, a pioneering AI data foundry services firm, has secured a staggering $1 billion in a series F funding round, propelling its valuation to nearly $14 billion.
This massive influx of capital comes from heavyweight backers like Amazon, Meta, Nvidia, Y Combinator, Founders Fund, and Intel Capital.
Billion-dollar baby levels up
Scale AI’s platform serves as a foundry for the entire AI lifecycle, assisting clients like OpenAI, Toyota, and even the US Department of Defense in collecting, curating, and annotating data – a crucial process for developing successful AI models.
Since its inception in 2016, the San Francisco-based company has collaborated with tech giants such as Microsoft, Meta, and Anthropic, integrating its technology into AI offerings across various industries, including ecommerce, retail, marketing, and legal.
Data annotators become goal scorers
Our vision is one of data abundance, where we have the means of production to continue scaling frontier large language models many more orders of magnitude.
We should not be data-constrained in getting to GPT-10,” said Alexandr Wang, CEO and founder of Scale AI.
The series F funds will be directed towards enhancing Scale AI’s model analysis work with enterprise clients, supporting the US Department of Defense, and bolstering the firm’s role in the DEFCON 31 red-teaming event.
