- OpenAI expands ChatGPT voice feature
- New voices added
- Video capabilities still pending
New Features and Expanded Access
OpenAI is rolling out Advanced Voice Mode (AVM) to more ChatGPT users, starting with Plus and Teams tiers.
The update includes a redesigned interface featuring a blue animated sphere, five new nature-inspired voices, and improved accent recognition.
Custom Instructions and Memory features are now integrated into AVM, allowing for personalized responses and conversation recall.
Improvements and Limitations
While OpenAI claims smoother and faster conversations, some features showcased earlier are notably absent. The video and screen sharing capabilities demonstrated in May are not included in this release.
Additionally, the voice named “Sky” has been removed following legal concerns raised by actress Scarlett Johansson.
Availability and Future Prospects
The rollout is gradual, with Enterprise and Edu customers gaining access next week. However, several regions, including the EU, UK, and some European countries, are currently excluded from AVM access.
As OpenAI continues to refine and expand this feature, it represents a significant step in making AI interactions more natural and accessible.
