Search giant takes on revenge porn

Microsoft has partnered StopNCII to help victims remove synthetic nude images from Bing search results.

The collaboration allows individuals to create digital fingerprints of explicit content, which Microsoft then uses to prevent these images from appearing in search results.

A growing problem in the AI era

The rise of generative AI has exacerbated the issue of non-consensual intimate imagery (NCII) online.

Microsoft’s pilot program has already taken action on 268,000 explicit images in Bing search results, highlighting the scale of the problem.

Tech giants unite, but Google lags behind

Microsoft joins a roster of major platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and Pornhub, in using StopNCII’s technology.

However, Google, the world’s most popular search engine, has faced criticism for not adopting similar measures, despite receiving numerous reports of unwanted sexual content.
