Three Mile Island’s Second Act

Microsoft has inked a deal Constellation Energy to power its data centers using the Three Mile Island Unit 1 nuclear plant. This move comes as tech giants scramble for energy sources to fuel their AI operations.

Constellation plans to invest $1.6 billion to revive the plant by 2028, renaming it the Crane Clean Energy Center.

The AI Energy Crunch

Big Tech’s appetite for power is insatiable. Microsoft, Amazon, and Alphabet aim to run data centers on green energy, but AI’s demands are putting these goals at risk.

The tech titans’ upcoming data centers could consume more electricity annually than Australia produces.

Nuclear Renaissance

Microsoft isn’t alone in its nuclear pivot. OpenAI’s Sam Altman advocates for nuclear power, Amazon bought a nuclear-powered data center for $650 million.

This surge in demand is reviving interest in nuclear energy, fusion startups have raised $7.1 billion to date, promising a cleaner, more powerful future for the industry.
