Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison and GoTo unveiled Sahabat-AI, a groundbreaking open-source language model designed specifically for Bahasa Indonesia and regional dialects.
The announcement came during Indonesia AI Day, garnering support from tech luminaries including NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang and government officials.
Tech Specs That Matter
The initial release features 8-billion and 9-billion parameter models, trained on NVIDIA’s AI platform. The project leverages Indosat’s GPU Merdeka sovereign AI cloud service to power future development and ensure continuous improvement of the language models.
Team Indonesia Assembles
The initiative brings together an impressive coalition of partners, including leading universities like UI and ITB, major media groups Republika and Kompas, plus international collaborators AI Singapore and Tech Mahindra. This national effort aims to preserve Indonesia’s linguistic heritage through cutting-edge AI technology.
