- Google supercharges Shopping tab with AI
- New features include personalized recommendations and AI shopping tips
- Company aims to compete with TikTok’s growing e-commerce presence
Your personal AI shopping buddy
Google is giving its Shopping tab a major AI upgrade. The tech giant announced on Tuesday that it’s leveraging generative AI to help users find products tailored to their specific needs. Plus, they’re rolling out a new scrollable feed of personalized, shoppable items.
AI knows best (most of the time)
When you search for a product, you’ll now see an AI brief with shopping tips. For example, searching for a “men’s winter jacket for Seattle” will give you a summary of what to consider for that climate. Google acknowledges this experimental feature might occasionally miss the mark, but it aims to speed up your search by showing relevant products with brief explanations of why they might suit you.
Infinite scroll meets infinite choices
Taking a page from TikTok’s playbook, Google’s new personalized shopping feed serves up products and videos based on your preferences. You might see popular Chelsea boots, followed by YouTube Shorts discussing boot-buying tips, then recommendations for hiking jackets or kitchen appliances. It’s all powered by Google’s Shopping Graph, which boasts 45 billion product listings, combined with Gemini AI models.
