AI Gets Feelings

Businesses are increasingly turning to “emotion AI” to enhance their AI-powered tools. This technology aims to help AI assistants and chatbots better understand human emotions during interactions.

Major cloud providers like Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services already offer emotion AI services to developers.

Startups Cash In

Several startups are entering the emotion AI space, attracting significant venture capital. Uniphore leads the pack, having raised $610 million in total funding. Other players include MorphCast, Voicesense, and Siena AI, each securing modest investments from various VCs.

Concerns Loom

Despite the growing interest, emotion AI faces challenges. Research suggests that human emotions can’t be accurately determined by facial expressions alone.

Additionally, potential regulations like the EU’s AI Act may restrict certain applications of emotion detection technology. These factors could impact the widespread adoption of emotion AI in business settings.
