Sergey back?
Google has confirmed its cofounder Sergey Brin played an instrumental role in developing Gemini – the search giant’s new AI chatbot meant to rival OpenAI’s red-hot ChatGPT.
In Google’s official white paper outlining the model’s capabilities, Brin is listed as a “core contributor” to Gemini.
It lends credence to reports that Brin has re-engaged more substantially at Google since AI exploded into the forefront after years of keeping a low profile post-retirement.
Pichai Seeks Google Founders’ Help!!
CEO Sundar Pichai reportedly tapped the company’s founders for help responding to ChatGPT’s sudden success.
Brin has since been spotted working frequently out of Google’s offices again and accessing internal code for the first time in years.
The AI pioneer said he came out of retirement because he “didn’t want to miss out” on the field’s revolutionary advances.
It’s all hands on deck, baby!
That hunger now has Brin shaping Google’s vision for how AI can enhance search and compete with rival chatbots.
With founders returning to the fray, Google is racing to leverage its AI strengths against scrappy upstarts.
But Brin’s role suggests the company knows it can’t afford to be left behind on what he calls the technology’s most transformational shift yet.
