- Startup unveils Arc browser to offer AI capabilities summarizing web content instead of search.
- It will automatically find booking links and crawl sites from typed phrases to serve relevant info.
- Questions remain around publisher compensation as more apps embrace generative search.
New AI-driven exploration
Startup The Browser Company unveiled plans to launch AI capabilities enabling its Arc web browser to discover and summarize content for users proactively instead of relying on search engines.
Dubbed “bringing the internet to you,” Arc will allow typing queries like “dinner reservations in NY” and automatically find available bookings by crawling sites – no clicking required.
Other planned features will instantly link to the requested content, create updated “Live Folders” of stories around topics, and summarize pages.
From queries to proactive content discovery
Founder Josh Miller argues that current browsers and search engines benefit from keeping users performing queries, while Arc wants to serve users the most relevant content using AI directly.
The company sees an opportunity to use agent-based browsing to rediscover the open web.
Launching first on mobile, Arc’s real-time folder and summarization features will roll out over the next few months.
While avoiding selling user data, the startup may later explore paid team-based products. However, questions remain around publisher compensation and AI curation biases as more apps embrace generative search.
