Is Apple Intelligence boring but brilliant?
Apple recently announced its foray into the AI race with Apple Intelligence, a revamped version of Siri that will incorporate ChatGPT through a partnership with OpenAI.
The company’s approach to AI focuses on enhancing existing products with practical features like writing suggestions and custom emojis, prioritizing practicality over flashiness.
The Wall Street Journal reports that Apple is in talks with Facebook’s parent company, Meta, for a similar AI partnership deal.
Although these discussions are not finalized, a collaboration with Meta could reduce Apple’s reliance on a single partner and validate Meta’s generative AI technology. In exchange for distribution, AI partners can offer premium subscriptions to Apple users.
Privacy patrol and EU rollout roadblocks
Addressing privacy concerns, Apple has stated that it will seek users’ permission before sharing any questions or data with ChatGPT, and presumably, any integration with Meta would follow suit.
However, due to the European Union’s Digital Markets Act, which aims to promote competition in digital markets, Apple plans to hold back Apple Intelligence from the EU, along with iPhone Mirroring and SharePlay Screen Sharing features.
