The secret sauce

Anthropic, the AI company behind Claude, has taken an unprecedented step by publishing the system prompts for its latest models.

These prompts, which guide the AI’s behavior and personality, are typically kept under wraps by tech giants. Anthropic’s move marks a shift towards transparency in the AI industry.

Peek behind the curtain

The prompts reveal fascinating insights into Claude’s “character.” For instance, Claude 3 Opus is instructed to appear intellectually curious and engage in wide-ranging discussions.

It’s also told to be impartial on controversial topics and never start responses with “certainly” or “absolutely.” Interestingly, the prompts explicitly state that Claude cannot perform facial recognition or identify individuals in images.

Setting a new standard?

By making these prompts public, Anthropic is challenging other AI companies to follow suit. This transparency could lead to better understanding and trust in AI systems.

However, it also highlights the extent to which these seemingly intelligent chatbots rely on human-crafted instructions to function.
