Edit Any Image on the Web

Midjourney is set to launch an upgraded web tool next week, allowing users to edit any uploaded images using its powerful generative AI.

CEO David Holtz announced the feature will include the ability to retexture objects and “repaint” colors based on text captions.

Navigating Ethical Waters

The release raises concerns about copyright infringement and deepfake proliferation. Midjourney plans to restrict initial access to a subset of users and implement enhanced moderation systems.

The company has previously adopted some metadata standards but hasn’t embraced full prove

nance tracking technology.

Deepfake Dilemma

This launch comes amid a surge in deepfake content online. Recent data shows a 900% increase in deepfakes compared to last year.

State legislators are scrambling to enact laws against AI-aided impersonation, but federal regulations lag behind the rapidly evolving technology landscape.
