E-ink gets a makeover

Amazon is shaking up the e-reader world by introducing its first color Kindle, the Colorsoft. Unlike competitors using E Ink technology, Amazon built its own color display system in-house, aiming to balance vibrant hues with the eye-friendly reading experience Kindle users love.

Technicolor dreams come at a price

The Colorsoft boasts a unique color filter and front-light combo, preserving battery life and reducing eye strain.

However, this colorful upgrade comes with a $280 price tag, positioning it between the Paperwhite and Scribe models in Amazon’s e-reader lineup.

Reading rainbow hits shelves soon

Preorders for the waterproof, wireless-charging Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition start October 18, with shipping beginning October 30.

Amazon’s betting big that bookworms are ready to trade their black-and-white pages for a more colorful reading future.
