Tiny Tweeters Take Over

A new study by parental control software maker Qustodio reveals an unexpected trend among 7- to 9-year-olds.

Over 30% of these “iPad kids” have X (formerly Twitter) accounts, despite the platform’s adult-oriented content.

The report, based on real-world app usage data from 180,000 families, shows that 44% of children in this age group already own tablets.

Search Engine Shenanigans

Qustodio speculates that young users might stumble upon X through Google Search results, which often feature X posts prominently.

Parents, viewing X as an “older” app, may overlook restricting access, potentially exposing their children to inappropriate content. The study notes that 13% of all X posts contain adult material.

Social Media Starts Young

The report highlights early adoption of various social platforms among the 7-9 age group. Beyond X, 28% use Reddit and 26% are on Facebook.

Yasmin London, a global online safety expert at Qoria (Qustodio’s parent company), warns that parents might underestimate the risks associated with these “less popular” platforms, which could expose children to explicit content, hate speech, and misinformation.
