Star-studded chatbots get the boot

Meta has pulled the plug on its celebrity AI assistants, including digital versions of Kendall Jenner and Snoop Dogg, less than a year after their splashy debut.

The company reportedly paid top creators up to $5 million for their likenesses, but the experiment seems to have fizzled out quickly.

Instead, Meta is pivoting to AI Studio, a platform allowing users to create their own AI chatbots.

CEO Mark Zuckerberg emphasized this shift during Wednesday’s earnings call, positioning it as a key component of Meta’s AI strategy.

Big Tech’s AI growing pains

The abrupt about-face highlights the challenges tech giants face in developing successful AI products.

Despite massive investments, many AI offerings have failed to capture widespread user interest. However, Meta’s stock rose 7% after hours, suggesting investors remain optimistic about the company’s AI ambitions.
