Startups stand strong

Nine months into the Israel-Hamas conflict, the Israeli startup ecosystem demonstrates remarkable resilience.

Despite initial challenges, including employee mobilization and a 70% year-over-year drop in venture capital investments, the tech sector has bounced back.

Cybersecurity and AI startups lead the charge, securing significant funding and fueling a 31% increase in private funding during the first half of 2024.

Silicon shields

The war has intensified cyberattacks against Israel, costing over $3 billion since last October. However, this adversity has strengthened the country’s cybersecurity industry.

Skilled talent, IDF tech unit graduates, and a robust entrepreneurial culture have bolstered Israel’s digital defenses.

Notable acquisitions, including Nvidia’s purchases of Run.AI and Desi, underscore the sector’s attractiveness to global investors.

AI powers through

AI startups are riding the wave of investor enthusiasm alongside their cybersecurity counterparts. Companies like Hailo, which recently raised $120 million amid the conflict, exemplify the sector’s resilience.

The Israel Innovation Authority and venture firms like OurCrowd have stepped in to support affected startups, launching programs to provide crucial funding and extend runways.

This collaborative effort ensures that Israel’s tech ecosystem not only survives but thrives in the face of adversity.
