Shopify sellers: welcome to Target!

Shopify merchants can now apply to join Target Plus, the retail giant’s third-party marketplace. This partnership allows Shopify sellers to reach Target’s millions of customers and sell their products alongside big-name brands.

Target is the first major retailer to feature Shopify products in-store. The initial group of Shopify sellers includes True Classic and Caden Lane, among others.

This collaboration brings a fresh assortment of products to Target’s shelves, offering customers even more variety.

Target Plus, launched in 2019, lags behind rivals like Amazon and Walmart in terms of the number of selling partners. Partnering with Shopify is a strategic move to expand Target’s third-party marketplace, which currently hosts 1,200 sellers.

By tapping into Shopify’s vast network of merchants, Target aims to boost its online presence and compete more effectively in the e-commerce space.

Shopify to the rescue?

The partnership follows Target’s unsatisfactory quarterly results, with a 3.7% decline in comparable sales for the fourth consecutive quarter.

The company’s overall sales also dropped by 3.2% in the first quarter of 2024.

The collaboration with Shopify is a step towards improving Target’s performance and attracting more customers in the face of increasing competition.
